Bill (William Richard) Berry (1930–2002)
Trumpet player, born to son of a bass player in touring band. First played in band under Don Strickland, then with Woody Herman and Maynard Ferguson orchestras. In 1961 joined Duke Ellington Orchestra. Later played with Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra, The Bill Berry Big Band (re-formed as The L.A. Big Band in 1971), and the Merv Griffin Show. Argentinian saxophonist, clarinetist, and composer. Leader of Jorge Anders Quartet and Jorge Anders Orchestra.
